Dining Out:

The Plough Inn

Normanton on Soar is located in the Soar Valley, south Nottinghamshire. Now known locally as Normanton, this is a pretty, picturesque village. The River Soar attracts many to this area, including boating enthusiasts, plus wildlife and nature lovers, walkers, ramblers and cyclists. The village dates from at least the 11th Century.

The Plough Inn (Bar and Restaurant) has beautiful river views, offering customers and guests delightful sights and scenes of the immediate area. The garden leads to the river and has moorings for boats. The pub was, historically, a coaching inn and dates from the 17th Century. Truly, a warm greeting awaits – on this occasion by Darrell. The décor and ambience portray peace and relaxation.

Starters can include Prawn Cocktail, plus excellent Charcoal and Red Velvet Prawns (tried and tested), through Peking Duck Spring Rolls (Two duck pancakes, hoi sin sauce, spring onion, salad), to Sharing Platters. Main courses are served with a selection of freshly prepared vegetables and a bowl of chips, with complimentary top-up service (also, seasonal salad and new potatoes, if requested) and offer an exemplary array, with something for all tastes, including ‘favourites’ of Steak & Kidney Pie, Lasagne and Pork Ribs. Gammon, Cod Loin and Mushroom Stroganoff all have ‘devotees’, too. The Salmon Fillet Royal arrives delicately poached (as the menu suggests) with lemon & chive. Cooked and presented to perfection and without hesitation, of course, ‘Compliments to Chef’ are justly deserved. Succulent and complementing flavours are in abundance, with this dish. Fillet Steaks, Barnsley Chop and Chicken Diane are all regular selections, for many diners, also. Desserts bring the dining occasion towards a (reluctant) close and Lemon Melting Pudding, from an excellent menu, does not disappoint. Light lunches and snacks are available, too.

Wines/drinks have something for all palates and gift vouchers are available – now there’s a thought! Parties and events can be easily arranged and accommodated, especially with the Plough having an attractive function room. Wedding receptions are a speciality and very popular, with the peaceful, venue setting. Many thanks to Darrell and Sophia for impeccable service throughout. A recommended riverside pub, bar and restaurant.

As always,
